It consists of high quantities of fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables, beans and legumes such as peas, chick peas and lentils, whole grains, nuts, seeds and drinking plenty of water each day.

The Mediterranean diet can lower blood pressure and cholesterol thereby reducing the risk of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes and can help avoid certain cancers, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's.
